![]() ![]() The Developers said that they will offer Modding tools and map editor for the game in the future. If you want to play a good SpellForce game, then I can recommend my all time favorite SpellForce 2 Dragon Storm. If you want to play a fun Top-Down RPG with some sort of RTS, you will be happy with this game, but you shouldn’t pay more as 30€/$ at the current state of content. These is so much content missing compared to the old ones, that you may think, these was 1 year of development missing. Let me say it how it is, 10 years ago you got a lot more for your 50€/$ as today. If you don’t play PVP the game has nothing to offer after the campaign. What I really dislike about the game is, that there is no “Free Game” Mode and 3rd person view like in the old games. For these who may wonder, I played it on normal. ![]() I never had any issues to finish a map in the second half of the game. Because the items are skill based and not level based you can gear up your heroes with end game items at the half of the game. The RPG part was also only tested on paper but not in game. Everything! Whoever designed that logic hasn’t planned it with RPG heroes. If this building falls, everything of the enemy drops dead. How you may ask? Just rush with your heroes to the Main Sector of the enemy, destroy the main building and ignore everything else. EVERY RTS part/map of the game can be skipped/rushed in under 10 min. But it never gives me the feeling of a SpellForce. To say that the game didn’t make me any fun wouldn’t be true. So they took it and just added a basic RPG logic to it. I have the feeling they wanted to do an other game but needed a name to sell it. This RTS system has nothing to do with the system of the other SpellForce games. This RTS System is exactly an Age of Empires with the “Die Siedler” section system. SpellForce 3 has been in development for 4 years, but they rebooted it after 2 years because they noticed the game back then didn’t make fun and you will notice this reboot in the development. Finally a continuation of the SpellForce saga! How does it go on after Sf2-DotP? What? It doesn’t? Long time before SpellForce 1? Smells like a reboot… and it is. ![]() Oh was I excited when they said that they will make a SpellForce 3. ![]() a lot of random quest trigger depending on your party (good luck to have the right person at the right time) only a small handful of character portraits a lot of loading screens for just a simple location change Items are skill based, not level based (maxed armor after ~50% of the campaign) RTS (Sector System) does not work in the Campaign (rush & skip always possible) Nothing to do after campaign except PVP Campaign only 30h (I needed 46h because I searched every map for items) Main Campaign Coop only in “support” role breakes the lore of the old (original) SpellForce Games (fanfiction level) Overall I give the game a solid 5.5 out of 10 Anyway I just wanted to make clear that I am not able to give a neutral review of the game, because I will always compare it to the old games. Of the Card game that was included in the Collectors Edition of SpellForce 2 I even created a standalone Game for Windows and Android. I also did a lot of Modding and Community Maps for SpellForce 2 and 1, because I loved the games and how they were done. Well first of all I have to say that this isn’t a neutral review, because I’m a SpellForce veteran and play the games of the franchise since 2003. Short version: for the current retail price of ~20€/$ you get a good value of content for your money, but it is nothing for hardcore fans of the series.Ī good & fun Top-Down RPG with some RTS game, but no SpellForce A lot of people have fun with it, but it's not for everyone. ![]()
